Corporate Overview> CEO Profile

Alan Marcus , entrepreneur, chairman, loving husband, caring father and proud grandfather.

“The man who put the glitter into glam rock” – The Sunday Times

The brainchild behind the ink refill’s multi million pound industry had the unlikeliest of beginnings. As a youth, Alan left school without any qualifications and started his career as an apprentice at his brother’s hairdressing salon. Soon, he was able to open his own salon in Newbury Park, Essex, paying a weekly rental of £12, not too long after, his second branch was opened in Barking. In 1978, he spearheaded the development of glitter and colour spray and home bleaching kits.
These products he created were at the heart of the 1980s fashion scene. Amongst the products he created were the nail-varnish-remover applicator, temporary tattoos and ladies shaving foam. In 1994, Alan invented the first universal ink refill kit, in fact most of the universal refill kits in the world today are based on his original invention.
This product had the ability to refill the cartridges of a wide range of printers and faxes, saving money, confusion and most importantly, contributing to environmental aid. “The ink companies try to stop you from refilling your own cartridges,” Alan says. “The original printer manufacturers cartridges can cost up to £35 to buy a single cartridge, even though you may have bought the printer for around the same money, yet each refill with our product could cost you as little as £0.50 per refill, saving a huge amount of money on your printing costs.
